H-E-B president to retire, chief operating officer to step into the role
A San Antonio-based grocery chain with a stronghold across Texas is now facing a change in leadership.
In case you missed it
H-E-B President Craig Boyan announced his intention to step down from his role, effective in January 2026.
He’ll subsequently retire at the end of next year, according to a Sept. 30 news release from the company.
As a result, current H-E-B Chief Operating Officer Roxanne Orsak will take his place.

Local New Braunfels brewery to close this fall after 16 years
A local brewery and biergarten is planning to shut its doors on Halloween in New Braunfels.
The details
Faust Brewing Company announced its upcoming closure on Oct. 31 at 499 S. Castell Ave. in New Braunfels, according to a Facebook post.
“For 16 wonderful years, we have had the privilege of serving our community, sharing laughter, celebrations, and creating unforgettable memories,” the post states.

TCEQ to hold public hearing for proposed wastewater permit in New Braunfels
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ, is holding a public meeting Oct. 2 for a proposed permit that requests the authorization to dispose of 460,000 gallons of treated domestic wastewater on 117 acres of public access land to serve a new residential development.
Two-minute impact
This permit—proposed by Chesmar Homes and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority—would be for a wastewater treatment facility and disposal site located 3.5 miles west of the FM 2722 and Hwy. 46 intersection in New Braunfels, according to a news release from the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, or GEAA.
GEAA is a nonprofit organization that works to promote broad-based advocacy protections and preservations of the Edwards Aquifer. The proposed facility and disposal site would be located in the drainage basin of the Comal River and in a segment of the Guadalupe River Basin, the release states.
The first segment of the meeting is for questions, and public comments will commence during the second part of the meeting.

Celebrate German culture while supporting local nonprofits at Wurstfest
Central Texas’ most popular 10-day celebration of German heritage and culture is right around the corner.
On Nov. 7-16, Wurstfest will attract 240,000 people from across the country and around the globe. The festival—founded in 1961—not only showcases the area’s rich German history, but also focuses on charity and scholarship, Wurstfest President Keith Wersterfer said.
Digging deeper
Wurstfest has about 20 to 24 nonprofit organizations attend the festival.
“It’s incredible, the amount of support they receive just within 10 days,” Wersterfer said.

- Comal County Junior Livestock Association

Historic San Antonio hotel completes $57 million renovation
A hotel that opened over 115 years ago in San Antonio has recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation project.
The details
The Gunter Hotel, situated at 205 E. Houston St., announced its grand opening on Sept. 22 in a news release, showcasing the upgrades.
Renovations totaled approximately $57 million, adding 20,000 new square feet of meeting spaces, 311 reimagined guest rooms and a new digital recording studio.
Additionally, the news release outlined the launch of four new bars and eateries on the hotel’s property, two of which are already open to the public—Jot’s, a new restaurant and The Keystone Club, a new brass bar.

Lefko Plastics selects New Braunfels for first US-based manufacturing facility
Lefko Plastics—a Canada-based manufacturing company—is officially expanding to New Braunfels.
What you need to know
Lefko USA Inc. will be operating in a 70,000-square-foot facility at 2625 Goodwin Lane. The facility will serve customers in Mexico and the Southern United States area and manufacture custom blow-molded plastic parts, components and products, as previously reported by Community Impact.
The company’s expansion will create over 150 new, full-time jobs and generate more than $15 million in capital investment. Lefko Plastics was also offered a $19,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus, according to a news release.
