MMA Regional Pick of the Week: ONE Fight Night 40
ONE Strawweight Fight: Jihin Radzuan vs Gabriela Fujimoto
Card Start Time: Friday (2/13), 9:00pm EST (Amazon Prime)
On Friday, ONE FC has a interesting matchup between strawweight prospects. Gabriela Fujimoto comes over from LFA to make her ONE debut against battle-tested Jihin Radzuan. While the sparkly, undefeated record is on the side of the Brazilian, the smart money should come down on the other side.
If you’ve seen Fujimoto fight, there is a lot to like. Her top control is smart and she has some nice takedowns against the cage. However, like a lot of jiu jitsu first prospects, her hands need to catch up to the rest of her game. She often looks clunky with her striking and can get tagged quite a bit.
On the other side of things, Radzuan has been in there with some phenomenal fighters and held her own striking. She fought Stamp Fairtex and had her moments in that fight. Plus, she was able to trade positions with talented grappler, Chihiro Sawada, on the mats – even taking the wrestler’s back at one point.
With such an advantage on the feet and the ability to hold her own on the mat, I’m shocked to see Radzuan as such a lofty underdog. This is a perfect spot to punish the books for record watching and not film watching.
