SAN ANTONIO – A celebration of Latino heritage and community-centered design is set for Saturday at the Bexar County Agrilife Urban Farm on the East Side.
Latinos in Architecture, the San Antonio chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and the Bexar County Agrilife Urban Farm will host “Día de la Arquitectura” from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at the farm, 1615 Sherman, San Antonio, Texas 78202.
Organizers say Día de la Arquitectura is meant to celebrate Latino heritage, bring families and neighbors together, share cultural traditions, and highlight the importance of community-centered spaces. The event is also designed to create an opportunity for people of different generations and backgrounds to come together and celebrate the culture, stories and traditions that help shape the community.
Planned activities include creative demonstrations, family recipes and a Día de Muertos altar honoring loved ones. The event will also include face painting, sugar skull coloring, sugar skull painting, origami butterflies and “Krabby Patty Cookie Creations.”
One of the featured activities will be a sketching session with Matt Morris, FAIA. Organizers say participants will gather in the garden to learn from Morris’ expertise, practice techniques and find inspiration in the surroundings, with the session open to both beginners and experienced artists.
The Bexar County Agrilife Urban Farm was championed by Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert and received the 2026 AIA San Antonio “Community Impact Award,” according to the release. The award category recognizes projects that positively impact the community by addressing economic disparity, educational inequity, community engagement, health outcomes, human rights and design excellence.
AIA San Antonio serves more than 600 architect and associate members, along with more than 85 allied companies working in architecture, design and construction across the greater San Antonio area and 22 surrounding counties, the release said.
