Levy has landed the food and beverage contract for a new arena that will serve as the home of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
The arena is due to open in 2030 and will replace Xfinity Mobile Arena (pictured) as the home of the two teams. News of Levy’s deal with Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) and Comcast Spectacor was first reported by Sports Business Journal.
Levy has been selected ahead of Aramark Sports + Entertainment, which provides food and beverage services for Xfinity Mobile Arena.
In October, the Sixers and Flyers selected a joint venture led by Turner Construction and AECOM Hunt as the construction manager for the new arena project. The announcement led to the formation of PACT+, with Turner Construction and AECOM Hunt being joined by prominent Philadelphia-based firms Perryman Construction, Hunter Roberts Construction Group and Camfred Construction.
Populous, in collaboration with associate architect Moody Nolan, has been selected to design the new arena, which is also set to house Philadelphia’s new WNBA team. The arena is a joint venture between HBSE, the parent company of the Sixers, and Comcast Spectacor, which owns Xfinity Mobile Arena.
‘Very comfortable’
Commenting on the deal with Levy, HBSE chief executive Tad Brown said: “We went through this process with a very open mind and we wanted to make sure we gave every provider an opportunity to share what they thought about how to develop the experience and the opportunities going forward. We felt very comfortable with Levy and what they presented and how we believe we’re going to work together in the future.”
Levy’s other arena clients include United Center in Chicago, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Delta Center in Salt Lake City and Prudential Center in Newark.
The Sixers announced plans for the new arena, which will be located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, in January 2025 after abandoning plans to build a downtown arena.
The South Philadelphia Sports Complex also houses Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, and Citizens Bank Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies.
