Blossomz, one of D.C.’s half dozen medical cannabis cultivation facilities, was closed Feb. 27th by The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.
The summary closure report and a public statement has not been publicly released by ABCA, but a public document from MPD revealed that four officers seized the following:
- Twenty boxes containing clear plastic bags of green leafy substance
- Three bins containing black plastic bag of green leafy substance
- Twelve boxes containing glass jars of green leafy substance
- Ten black bins containing packages of pre rolled cannabis “cigarettes” or prerolls
The report is marked investigation pending and no final amount of confiscated material has been reported to ABCA, according to their public information officer. The police report indicates that a large amount was seized.
This is the first licensed and opened cultivation facility closed by ABCA since the market began expanding in 2023. Before the D.C. market expanded, there were only a handful of cultivators that provided medical products to about half a dozen medical dispensaries.
One other cultivation facility that had yet to open but was in the process of getting licensed and opening was closed in 2025. Investigators discovered almost 1,000 illegal cannabis plants at the facility. ABCA fined the business $10,000 and forced them to sell their license.
Historically, only two main cultivators provided medical products to D.C.’s cannabis retailers. Over the course of 2025, a few additional cultivators joined a market starved for product diversity.
In contrast, over sixty new medical dispensaries opened over last year. Blossomz products, cannabis flower and prerolls, were stocked in most major medical dispensaries.
It is still unclear why ABCA and MPD closed the cultivation facility, and there is no public contact information for the business or its registered agents with which to contact them for comment.
This is a breaking story. Stay tuned for updates.
