A Houston ice cream shop will serve up the Cajun treat over ice cream.
HOUSTON — In the middle of crawfish season, one Houston business is putting a bold twist on a Gulf Coast staple — by turning it into dessert.
At Red Circle Ice Cream, customers can find crawfish ice cream on the menu, a creation that blends sweet and savory flavors in a way that’s catching attention. Owner Nickey Ngo says the process starts with a traditional ice cream base, but quickly takes a turn with the addition of Cajun seasoning, butter, garlic and other ingredients typically found in a crawfish boil.
The result is anything but ordinary. Customers describe the flavor as creamy with a hint of saltiness and a subtle kick of spice — far from the typical scoop. While some are hesitant at first, others say it’s worth stepping outside their comfort zone to give it a try.
Nickey leans into the novelty, encouraging guests to “have a little fun with it,” even jokingly suggesting a chaser after a sample.
But she has one warning…
“Obviously, don’t kiss anybody after I give you the sample, right?” Nikki said.
The unique treat is part of a larger lineup of inventive desserts at the shop, which has built a reputation for creative combinations.
