FRISCO — Stars GM Jim Nill confirmed Thursday that his assistant GM Scott White is being considered for a number of general manager jobs across the NHL.
“It’s no secret,” Nill said. “You guys have heard that Scott White has been interviewed for GM jobs.”
According to multiple reports, White has been a candidate for the GM openings in Nashville, Toronto and Vancouver. The Predators and Canucks jobs remain open.
White just completed his 11th season as the assistant general manager for the Stars, while also serving as the general manager for Dallas’ AHL team, the Texas Stars. White is the only GM in Texas Stars history.
He has been part of the Stars organization since 2005, also serving in professional scouting and director or minor league operations roles.
White had long been thought of as the logical replacement for Nill once he retires. But after Nill signed a two-year contract extension in March, the Stars may not be able to keep White for two more seasons before another team hires him for the head job.
“You know you’re doing the right thing or you’ve got the right people in place when other teams are calling wanting to interview your people,” Nill said.
