YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A New York woman has been convicted in a drug trafficking case that followed Helene.
Kelly Louise Daly, 42, of Brooklyn, New York, has been convicted of trafficking and possession of cocaine.

According to a social media post, Daly had more than 200 grams of cocaine but less than 400.
Daly reportedly came to Yancey County from New York following Helene and had been residing at Camp Miller in a camper.
Authorities say that on Dec. 15, 2024, while moving the camper after being asked to leave the campground, there was an accidental fire in the camper, in which Daly was the sole occupant.
According to the post, during the investigation into the fire, deputies with the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office found around 303.77 grams of cocaine within the remnants of the camper.

For the trafficking in cocaine charge, Daly has been sentenced to a minimum of 70 months (5 years 10 months) and a maximum of 93 months (7 years 9 months) in prison. Daly also received a fine of $100,000.

For the possession of cocaine charge, Daly has been sentenced to a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 17 months (one year and five months), along with a probationary sentence.
