Texas has reclaimed its position as the leading state with the most Fortune 500 headquarters, surpassing California. Houston continues to spearhead the largest concentration of these corporate powerhouses in the state.
With a total of 57 prominent companies choosing Texas as their home base, it is evident that the state’s business-friendly environment and thriving workforce have been instrumental in attracting and nurturing influential entities.
“Texas is the undisputed headquarters of headquarters,” said Governor Greg Abbott in a press release. “The world’s leading businesses invest with confidence in Texas because of our welcoming business climate, predictable regulatory environment, and skilled and growing workforce. People and businesses are choosing Texas because Texas works.”
In addition, Houston stands as the second-largest U.S. metro for Fortune 500 headquarters, boasting 27 corporate giants. Houston ranks behind New York and is tied with Chicago, while remaining ahead of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area, which has 23 Fortune 500 headquarters.
The region is on track to add another Fortune 500 headquarters. Expand Energy, ranked No. 362 on the 2026 list, has announced plans to move its headquarters from Oklahoma to Spring in 2026. Once the move is complete, Houston will have 28 Fortune 500 headquarters and hold sole possession of the No. 2 spot among U.S. metro areas.
