Auburn baseball’s Butch Thompson ‘disappointed’ in NCAA regional format
Auburn baseball head coach Butch Thompson said the NCAA regional format needs to be rediscussed in terms of “what’s best for student-athletes.”
Whether from an if‑necessary game or Game 2 of a super regional, College World Series tickets will be punched on Sunday, June 7.
One team that forced the if-necessary game of its super regional was North Carolina. The fifth-seeded Tar Heels, coming off a complete game shutout from Jason DeCaro, are looking to reverse sweep USC on Sunday to return to Omaha for the second time in the last three seasons.
The winners of the Tar Heels-Trojans series will join West Virginia and Troy in Omaha as current members of the eight-team CWS field.

Elsewhere, No. 3 Georgia, No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Alabama are looking to end their series in two games while booking their flights to Omaha — a travel book that hasn’t happened since 2008, 2022 or 1999, respectively, for the Bulldogs, Longhorns and Crimson Tide.
Speaking of SEC teams, unseeded Oklahoma is looking to continue is postseason run with yet another upset over No. 15 Kansas in the Lawrence Super Regional after beating No. 2 Georgia Tech twice to escape the Atlanta Regional. Can the Sooners get one more win over the Jayhawks, or will the series go to a pivotal Game 3?
