New York state has begun mailing out STAR property tax credit checks to 3 million residents across the state, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.
Homeowners who are eligible and registered for the program will receive their check before the deadline for their school taxes.
This means an extra $350 to $600 in their pockets, while seniors will see anywhere from $700 to $1,500.
“The start of summer is also the start of STAR tax relief season for millions of New Yorkers,” Hochul said. “From tax credits and energy rebates to our expanded child tax credit and middle class tax cuts, we’re continuing to put more money back in New Yorkers’ pockets.”
The upstate breakdown is:
- Capital District – $136.4 million to 238,000 recipients
- Central New York – $123.7 million to 173,000 recipients
- Finger Lakes – $193.7 million to 274,000 recipients
- Mid-Hudson – $461.1 million to 397,000 recipients
- Mohawk Valley – $62.5 million to 99,000 recipients
- North Country – $44.5 million to 86,000 recipients
- Southern Tier – $103.4 million to 153,000 recipients
- Western New York – $168.5 million to 314,000 recipients
Check deliveries will continue statewide throughout this summer and fall.
However, residents in areas with school tax due dates in late June and July, like Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, can expect to receive their checks soon.
