The Angels and Athletics opened their series on Friday night and the A’s played to a 9-3 victory before the Angels bounced back on Saturday to capture a 5-2 win and even the series. Geoff Hartlieb was credited with the loss on Saturday night after giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Jonah Heim and Colby Thomas led the Athletics’ offense, with Heim hitting a solo shot to center field and Thomas hitting an RBI single to bring home the team’s final run in the sixth.
Denzer Guzman, Jorge Soler and Jo Adell powered the Los Angeles offense, combining for three of the team’s runs. Adell hit a two-run triple to open the scoring for the Angels while the rest of the runs came home on various triples. Ryan Zeferjahn improved to 4-3 on the year with the win, pitching for one inning and striking out two batters. Kirby Yates came through with the save, his second of the season.
Aaron Civale will get the start for the Athletics on Sunday afternoon, while the Angels will put the ball in Sam Aldegheri’s hand. Civale is currently 5-4 on the season with an ERA of 4.88 and Aldegheri is looking to get back to .500 as he has a record of 2-3 with an ERA of 5.47.
