NRG Park could be getting $47.14 million in improvements across 24 priority projects soon, but it’s still a drop in the well compared to the estimated $1.9 billion in maintenance and repairs the property will need over the course of the next 15 years.

The improvements include a $12 million replacement of the NRG Center’s roof, $4.5 million to waterproof and repair windows in NRG Stadium’s upper levels and $6.81 million for elevator repairs in both buildings, according to the Houston Business Journal. There’s also money earmarked for emergency communications and drainage improvements across the park’s 350 acres of space.

The Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, who are the Park’s landlords, approved the plan during its June 25 meeting, according to the outlet. The specific projects on tap for the park have been identified as priorities for the property, as around $1.9 billion is needed to bring the park up to snuff. The plan has been submitted to the Harris County Commissioners Court for funding. Once the funding has been secured, a timeline for the much-needed repairs can be hammered out by the HCSCC.

The potential capital injection for repairs is the second since 2025. Harris County Sports previously approved $55 million to address elevators and escalators across NRG Stadium last year, around eight months before the stadium was set to host seven World Cup matches.

The park will be missing a bit of normally scheduled programming in the near future. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is partially moving out after committing to building a $300 million agricultural facility about five miles east. Main rodeo events and concerts will remain at NRG, but livestock shows and other community agricultural events will be held at the new facility. Houston Rodeo president and CEO Chris Boleman said that this was not a full relocation.
