A kindergarten teacher at Hill View Montessori Charter Public School in Haverhill was one of 50 Latino educators from across the state honored last week during the fifth annual Latino Educators Shine Awards by Latinos for Education.
Natali Mercedes was nominated by Rep. Ryan M. Hamilton and Sen. Barry R. Finegold for her dedication and commitment as an educator and positive impact on students, families and the broader community. She was one of 15 charter public school educators to be recognized.
“I am deeply honored to have received this award from Latinos for Education alongside talented Latino educators from across the state,” said Mercedes. “To me, this award represents not only my work as a teacher, but the work of the entire Hill View community, where we strive to ensure every child is seen and thrives. Thank you to Latinos for Education for supporting Latino educators to ensure every child has the educational opportunities they deserve.”
Mercedes joined Hill View in 2024 as a lead kindergarten teacher and brings 15 years of experience in Montessori teaching to Hill View, where her impact extends far beyond the classroom. She and her colleagues. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and the Association Montessori Internationale Diploma, an internationally recognized credential that certifies her to guide Montessori learners in grades K–6 across the globe.

Her steady confidence, genuine acceptance of every child, and nurturing presence make her classroom a place where all students, particularly those from diverse and underserved communities, feel seen, valued and capable of greatness.”
