Corey Perry signs 1-year, $1 million contract with Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings signed right wing Corey Perry to a one-year, $1 million contract on the first day of NHL free agency on Wednesday, the team announced.

Perry, 41, split last season between the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning. He scored a combined 17 goals and 37 points. The Kings traded him to the Lightning at the deadline in March, and Perry didn’t register a point in Tampa Bay’s seven-game loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs.

As he moves into his 22nd season, Perry is third on the active list of NHL games played with 1,464, trailing only Brent Burns and Alex Ovechkin. The 2011 Hart Trophy winner with the Anaheim Ducks played last season on a contract worth $2 million in salary, with the possibility of up to $2 million more in performance bonuses.

Perry has 465 goals and 972 points in a career spent with the Ducks, Lightning, Kings, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. Last season’s early playoff exit snapped a stretch in which he appeared in the Stanley Cup Final five times in a six-year span.

According to the Kings, Perry’s contract is potentially worth up to an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses.
