Los Angeles police are trying to determine how two toddler boys died from a possible drug dose inside their family home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South LA, the police department told NBC Los Angeles exclusively Thursday.
The LAPD said its officers were requested to the home on South Victoria Avenue near Crenshaw Boulevard at around 7:30 a.m. Monday. Police were called after paramedics, who responded to a medical emergency at the home, found the little boys and determined they were dead.
The toddlers were identified as Atlas and Sebastian Carbajal by the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Although toxicology results were not available as of Thursday, the boys’ deaths are being probed as a possible drug overdose, law enforcement sources told NBCLA. Multiple sources said they believe fentanyl may have been involved.
While trying to learn what happened to the boys and how they died, detectives interviewed the victims’ family members and released them for further investigation, the LAPD said.
The autopsies on the boys were complete, but their release is postponed until toxicology reports are available, allowing the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause and manner.
The LAPD urged anyone with information to reach out to the LAPD Juvenile Division at 213-486-0570
