January toughest, and long road trip near the homestretchSeason begins in September against the Penguins

The National Hockey League released their entire schedule Thursday afternoon, and the Flyers schedule looks just a little less condensed than last season even though they’re playing two more games over last year.

The Flyers, who revealed their home opener on Wednesday, will see 12 sets of back-to-back games over the season, a slight decrease from the 14 the team had in 2025-26. As well, they will play three games in four nights on 13 occasions, and nine times they’ll play four games in six nights. Those streaks are all reduced from last year as there will be no three-week break for the Winter Olympics, nor is there a 4 Nations Face-Off to contend with. The only February break will be for the All-Star Game festivities hosted by the Islanders.

January toughest, and long road trip near the homestretch

January will see Philadelphia play 16 games that month, half of them on the road. However, the eight home games will see a five-game home stand Jan. 21-30, their longest of the season. On the other hand, the Flyers will have not one but two five-game road trips. One in November sees Philadelphia play the Rangers before heading West to face, Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton before wrapping things up in Columbus. As well, the team will have its traditional post-Christmas West Coast swing which visits Chicago (Dec. 27), Seattle (29), San Jose (Jan. 1), Anaheim (Jan. 3) and Los Angeles (Jan. 4). Obviously, given the acrimony the Ducks and Flyers might have regarding the Leo Carlsson offer sheet, the Jan. 3 game will be one to circle on the calendar. The teams will meet before that when Anaheim visits Philadelphia on Oct. 24.

The Flyers will also see a rather difficult homestretch to conclude the season when they play seven of their final 10 games on the road, and the majority of the 10 against Metropolitan Division opponents: Pittsburgh (home, away), Washington (two at home), Carolina (away), New Jersey (away), Islanders (away), Columbus (away). The only non-Metropolitan teams are away games at Tampa (March 25) and Florida (March 27). Definitely not an easy trek, particularly if they are not well situated for a playoff spot. The last road game for Philadelphia will be April 8 against the Blue Jackets before concluding the season against Washington on April 10.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia will play 15 games a month (or months) on two other occasions. They will a play 15 games in September and October combined, and another 15 in November. Meanwhile, April will only see them play five times and just six games in February. The Flyers will have no games from Feb. 4-12, part of which is the All-Star Game festivities and the other part is rest obviously. The club also has only one back-to-back in each of December and February.

The schedule sees the Flyers play their Metropolitan Division rivals four times a piece (two away, two at home), and three games against each team in the Atlantic Division. As for the Western Conference, the Flyers will play each team twice: once at home, once away.

Season begins in September against the Penguins

On Wednesday, the league released the home openers for every team. The Flyers are opening their season at home against their longtime nemesis the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sept. 30. The game will be the first game aired by TNT/HBO Max as part of a doubleheader. Philadelphia’s first back-to-back will be their opening two games of the year as they visit New Jersey for the Devils’ home opener on Oct. 1. The only other home opener the Flyers are participating in is Ottawa’s on Oct. 8. The Flyers will not participate in any of the special outdoor games during the seasons nor any of the contests slated for Europe.

The National Hockey League will open its season on Sept. 29 with five games: Toronto hosts Montreal, Vegas hosts Chicago, Vancouver visits Edmonton, the defending Cup champions Carolina hosts Florida, and the Bruins is at home against the Rangers. In terms of having the latest home opener, that belongs to the Panthers who have their first home game on Oct. 10 against Minnesota.

The home opener is the earliest the Flyers have ever commenced a season. The team is 33-18-5-2 in home openers, and 29-20-7-2 in season-openers. The Sept. 30 game is the eighth time in franchise history they’ve hosted the Penguins in their home opener (5-2-0 record) and ninth time they’ve started a season against them (4-3-1-0 record). As well, the 84-game season is the first change to the length of a season since 1995-96 when it was 82 games. However, it’s not the first time the NHL went with 84 games as in 1992-93 and 1993-94 the league opted for that length.
