Mary Ann Schneider (née Strange), born September 30, 1939, in Ely, NV, to Robert Clyde Strange and Margaret Lillian (née Horton), passed away July 14, 2026, at the St. Camillus Memory Care home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Mary attended White Pine County High School in Ely, NV, through her junior year, graduating high school at Our Lady of The Wasatch in Salt Lake City, UT. She attended St. Patrick’s Nursing school in Missoula, Montana, before returning to Ely in 1959.
Mary worked many years as a transcriptionist for the Steptoe Valley Clinic, before taking home-education courses to certify as a Medical Records Librarian. She served in that role at William Bee Ririe Hospital for nearly 30 years.
Along with full-time work, she trained and volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician, riding ambulances to provide aid to victims of various emergencies throughout White Pine County.
During her years in Ely, Mary was actively involved with Sacred Heart Catholic Church, including holding leadership positions in the Young Ladies Institute, and serving as volunteer trainer for altar boys. She was a member of a local contract bridge players group, and an avid reader.
In retirement, Mary moved to live out her days in Wisconsin, near her son Robert.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Strange, New Braunfels, TX; her three sons: Michael, Seattle, WA, Stephen, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Robert, Brookfield, WI; and her daughter Margaret Rooney, Mohegan Lake, NY; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
As was her wish, she will be cremated, and eventually interred in her parents’ cemetery plot in Ely, Nevada. There will be no services.
