UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Zoo was filled with music, food and cultural celebrations as El Zorro Radio hosted its second annual “Mesta Fiesta.”
The event took place in the afternoon and was free with Utica Zoo admission.
Guests enjoyed authentic Mexican food, live mariachi music, performances by the MVLA Caribbean Dance Crew and miniature donkey walkabouts.
There were also chances to win door prizes, including two-day zoo passes.
“This is really a nice way to bring unity to the community. We co-promote these events so people will learn about the different businesses, the different foods, the different cultures in our community, and it really seems to be working,” Mindy Barstein, owner of El Zorro Radio Latino, said.
Organizers said the Mohawk Valley has a vibrant and growing Latino community and events like Mesta Fiesta help bring people together while celebrating different cultures.
