SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants have traded outfielder Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees in exchange for prospects Henry LaLane and Kaeden Kent, according to multiple reports.
LaLane is one of New York’s top pitching prospects, while Kent is the son of 2026 Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Kent.
Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that the teams were working on a deal Monday afternoon. The Giants have yet to confirm.
Unlike veterans Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray, both traded earlier Monday, Ramos wasn’t on an expiring contract, and there wasn’t necessarily an urgency to trade him.
Ramos, 26, will enter his first year of arbitration during this upcoming offseason and was under team control through the 2029 season. The Giants, though, needed pitching more than they needed a corner outfielder, and they addressed that need by trading Ramos to the Bronx.
LaLane, a 6-foot-7 left-handed pitcher, was the Yankees’ No. 5 prospect according to Baseball America. His father, also named Henry, is a former pro basketball player out of the Dominican Republic.
The 22-year-old uses a mid-90s fastball along with a changeup and slider. He is 4-1 with a 2.77 earned-run average in 78 innings between Single-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley so far this season. He has 98 strikeouts in those 16 appearances.
Ramos spoke to reporters about the news Monday in Arlington ahead of the Giants’ game in Texas.
“They gave me the sense to be a big leaguer. They gave me the sense to be who I am today,” he said of the Giants. “… I’m just really proud of being a part of this organization. They have a lot of history, so it’s obviously going to have a big place in my heart.”
He did say he thinks he’ll look nice in pinstripes, though.
“I can’t wait to hear from (Aaron) Judge, hear from all those guys,” he said. “The way they play, the way they are — it’s going to be fun for sure.”
Kent, 22, was the Yankees’ No. 14 prospect, per Baseball America. He was born just under a year after his father Jeff, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Giant, left San Francisco in free agency.
The middle infielder was a third-round pick of the Yankees in 2025 after playing at Texas A&M. Over 76 games with the Yankees’ High-A affiliate, Kent hit .302/.359/.433 with six homers and 20 steals.
The Giants have plenty of players on the active roster who could see time in left field now that Ramos has been traded, including outfielders Drew Gilbert and Grant McCray. Catcher/utilityman Jesús Rodríguez, who has experience in left field, recently landed on the 10-day injured list.
Center fielder Jonah Cox recently started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, while Victor Bericoto should be nearing the start of his own rehab assignment. Both are returning from oblique strains.

Looking down the line, prospects Bo Davidson and Parks Harber, who are both playing for Triple-A Sacramento, could see some time in the Giants’ outfield down the stretch. Davidson is a full-time outfielder, while Harber is a primary third baseman who occasionally plays the corners.
It’s worth noting that Davidson is Rule 5 Draft eligible this winter, meaning the Giants must add him to their 40-man roster to protect him from being poached by other teams. Harber, however, isn’t Rule 5 eligible until after the 2027 season, meaning there isn’t as much urgency to add him to the 40-man.
The Giants selected Ramos in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft, but it wasn’t until 2024 that Ramos finally broke onto the scene. That year, Ramos became the Giants’ first homegrown All-Star outfielder since Chili Davis in 1986, as well as the first right-handed batter to achieve a Splash Hit in Oracle Park history.
Over 384 games with San Francisco, Ramos hit .257 with 53 home runs, 177 RBIs and a .736 OPS. This season, he is hitting .264 with nine home runs. In 2025, Ramos was presented with the Giants Good Guy award by the San Francisco chapter of the BBWAA.
