New Jersey.- More than 100 students and young leaders from the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Mexico participated in the opening of a traveling exhibition that highlights the contributions of the Latino community to the development of the United States over the last 250 years. The initiative is part of the commemorative activities for the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The exhibition, titled “Celebrating 250 Years of Latino Impact in American History”, was presented by the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute at Seton Hall University, in New Jersey. During the inaugural event, attendees also participated in the workshop “History Watches Us”, an educational experience that promotes values such as leadership, responsibility, resilience, and commitment to society.

The activity coincided with the celebration of the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session, a youth leadership training program organized by the National Hispanic Institute (NHI), which brought together participants from different countries to strengthen their leadership and community service skills.

The organizers explained that the exhibition covers different moments in American history to highlight the contributions of Latino figures in areas such as science, medicine, education, culture, sports, military service, the business sector, and public administration. The exhibition also seeks to foster recognition of those contributions among new generations.

In addition to its physical presentation, the project was designed to reach schools, universities, libraries, museums, hospitals, community organizations, and other institutions interested in promoting knowledge of the Latino heritage in the United States. Its materials can be used by educational and cultural entities as part of activities related to the country’s 250th anniversary.

According to the Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute, this initiative is part of its mission to promote research, strengthen student leadership, and disseminate the role that Latinos have played in building American society, with the purpose of inspiring future generations.
