Boston native Joshua Báez hits three home runs in MLB debut
ST. LOUIS —
Boston native Joshua Báez stunned in his MLB debut as a St. Louis Cardinal Saturday, hitting three home runs in three at-bats.
Báez, who attended the Dexter Southfield School in Brookline, was called up from the Triple-A Memphis team less than 24 hours before making his debut.
The 23-year-old right fielder homered his first hit, a whopping 449-foot home run, at the top of the first inning against the Chicago Cubs.
Báez hit two more home runs in the 4th and 6th innings.
Báez was named the 2019-20 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year in Massachusetts.
He transferred to Dexter Southfield ahead of the 2019-20 school year from the Snowden International School in Boston.
Báez was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft and played 103 games for Triple-A Memphis before being called up to St. Louis.
Báez became the first player to hit three home runs in his first three at-bats in the major leagues, leading the Cardinals to an 8-4 victory over the Cubs.
