OG Anunoby is excited to face LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers for the opening night of the 2026-27 NBA season.
OG Anunoby is thrilled to kickstart the New York Knicks’ title defense in the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season with a marquee matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.
As the 76ers are set to feature a brand-new look headlined by LeBron James, the Knicks star is looking forward to the opening night game.
“I mean, anytime you get to play against a player like LeBron, it’s an honor, especially because he might retire pretty soon,” Anunoby told Bleacher Report of the Knicks’ season-opener against the Sixers. “So, it’ll be pretty cool.
“And I mean, they’re a great team with a lot of great players. They’ve added a lot of guys this summer. And they’re very well coached, Nick Nurse. So I think it’ll be a really fun opening night.”
Defending champion Knicks set to face LeBron James, 76ers in 2026-27 opening night
After raising their championship banner and holding the ring ceremony, the New York Knicks will host the Philadelphia 76ers in the opening game of the highly anticipated 2026-27 season at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 20.
This will mark the first meeting between the two teams since the 2026 NBA Playoffs, when the Knicks completely dominated the Sixers with a four-game sweep en route to winning this year’s championship.
As such, the Knicks will be slated to face a much different Sixers team than the one they eliminated in previous months. With the blockbuster trade acquisition of Jaylen Brown and free-agency commitment of LeBron James, many view Philadelphia as the most legitimate threat to New York in reigning over the Eastern Conference.
Regardless, the entire NBA can’t ask for a much better opening night, as both the 76ers and the Knicks will spark the anticipation of the new NBA season.
