A gymnasium, activity rooms and an indoor track are planned for a new two-story recreation center at Echo Trail Park in southwest Las Vegas, according to Clark County officials.

Clark County commissioners unanimously approved the project on Wednesday. The 58,000-square-foot facility will be an extension of the existing park at Buffalo Drive and Russell Road.

Commission Chair Michael Naft said during Wednesday’s meeting that the project had been “many, many, many” years in the making. Its design was modeled after the Silverado Ranch Community Center in the south valley.

“The approval of the Echo Trail Community Center is an exciting step forward for the southwest,” he said in a statement. “After seeing the incredible success of our Silverado Ranch Community Center, I am thrilled to have modeled Clark County’s newest Parks and Recreation campus after it.”

The project is expected to cost roughly $40 million, Naft told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The center will offer programs for people of all ages, he said.

“The project will also enhance the area that is currently home to Echo Trail Park, creating an even more vibrant and welcoming destination for neighbors to play, recreate, and build community,” Naft said in the statement. “Community centers raise property value while improving the health and quality of life for nearby residents.”

The facility, which is expected to open in 2028, will include a dance and yoga studio, multipurpose classrooms, offices, conference rooms, a kitchen for cooking classes, and an arts and crafts room, according to the county. A second-floor mezzanine will feature a circular track for walking and jogging.

The project also calls for 288 additional parking spaces, increasing the park’s total to 321 spaces, according to the county.

Echo Trail Park, which opened in 2022, features tennis and pickleball courts, a playground, splash pad and walking trail.

Design plans were submitted by LGA Architecture, the firm behind the Silverado Ranch Community Center and the city of Las Vegas’ new Civic Center & Plaza — among other projects.

Jason Jorjorian, an LGA principal and architect, compared the planned community center to the Silverado Ranch facility during Wednesday’s meeting.

“We want to take all those ingredients into this new neighborhood and improve upon them,” he said. “That was the mission before us.”
