The organization Voto Latino Foundation (VLF) and MS NOW announced an association for the National Day of Voter Registration. The two organizations were in the UT West Mall, outside of the Texas Union, on September 15th, with the help of the fraternity Phi Iota Alpha and the sorority Lambda Theta Alpha Latin.

The association seeks to create an experience where the students feel involved and are motivated to register and learn about civil education and why their vote is important. The organizations chose UT because the university is considered an HSI, which means that 25% of the students are hispanic.

The organization Voto Latino Foundation (VFL) is a nonprofit, dedicated to educate, convince and empower latino voters. The director of the campaign of VFL, Javier Gamboa, said that the organization has helped register nearly 500,000 voters in Texas and more than 2 million voters since its establishment.

MS NOW is a broadcasting network that has lent its social media presence and credibility to the cause. After this event, MS NOW and VLF traveled together to Arlington, Texas, for the biggest event of MS NOW. MS NOW LIVE:TOGETHER IN TEXAS will take place the 26th of September and include 15 speakers who’ll unite the community and attract audiences to the center of one of the biggest debates in the nation.

VFL will continue to tour Texas and has planned to stop in McAllen and Brownsville with the same purpose: Educating latino voters.

“It is important to have these conversations because here in Texas, 3 out of 5 young Texans are not registered to vote and that is a big problem”, said Gamboa. “Us, being here, are trying to close that gap.”
