National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from Sept 15 through Oct 15. In the Triangle, La Fiesta del Pueblo brings the community together to celebrate Hispanic heritage and showcase the rich diversity of Latin American culture and traditions.
La Fiesta del Pueblo, the Triangle’s largest celebration of Hispanic heritage, returned this year with new events and performances. Festival goers were invited to participate in a Unity Walk from the 100 block of Fayetteville St to City Plaza led by Ballet Folclórico Orgullo y Alma Latina.
Banda Maguey headlined the festival’s entertainment lineup, which also featured local musical talents and dance groups.
“Latino or Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize, celebrate and honor the history, contributions and legacy of the Latin American community in the United States. La fiesta del Pueblo is how we celebrate the nationally recognized month here at home.” said Veronica Aguilar, communications director for El Pueblo.”Latinos in North Carolina have contributed enormously to the rich and unique culture of our state. This is our home, and we’re excited to celebrate our culture in the heart of our state’s capital.”
This years festival also featured 17 food vendors representing dishes from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, Argentina, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Nonprofit organizations and government agencies were also in attendance to provide information and community service to festival goers.
