The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library celebrated Hispanic culture Saturday with its third annual Hispanic Heritage Fest, Alegría.
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library celebrated Hispanic culture with its third annual Hispanic Heritage Fest, Alegría, on Saturday.
The event had a variety of food, and activities and was held in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. It was hosted to show off the Hispanic culture and contributions throughout the community. Alegría, means “joy” in Spanish.
Joshua Nagron, a public service associate at the library, said the event is meant to showcase the local Hispanic community and the diversity found throughout Clarksville, Montgomery County and Middle Tennessee. “We have several food vendors, also nonprofits, promoting local small businesses,” Nagron said. “We have all sorts of crafts for all ages and children.”
Among the organizations participating was Somos Cultura, a local nonprofit focused on connecting people with artists and other cultural traditions.
Marie Santana, co-founder of Somos Cultura, said the organization works to introduce people to different forms of art and culture while helping younger generations learn about traditions. “It’s a way to show Clarksville and every single person how amazing our culture is and that we’re here to grow together as a community,” Santana said.
Saturday was Santana’s first time participating in the library’s Hispanic Heritage Fest. She said the many activities gave children an opportunity to experience parts of Hispanic culture while having fun. “I think that this kind of event is not just about a language or a culture,” Santana said. “No matter where you came from, we’re just one.”
