The NFL confirmed on Monday that it has suspended two officials who were involved in incidents with players during games on Sunday.
The league suspended line judge Jeff Seeman two games and referee Adrian Hill one game, respectively, for “an instance of unprofessional conduct toward a player.”
The league said that the suspensions were issued by NFL vice president of officiating Ramon George.
Seeman was caught on camera appearing to curse at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, which drew the ire of union leader JC Tretter, a retired offensive lineman who played eight seasons.
“This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable,” Tretter, the NFL Players Association’s executive director, said on social media along with a video clip of the incident. “Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
The interaction took place with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter after officials did not call a pass interference or illegal contact penalty on New York’s Andru Phillips, who made contact with McBride before the ball arrived from Jacoby Brissett on a third-and-2 play.
Hill’s incident occurred during Sunday’s game between Minnesota and Miami when Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson accidentally collided with Hill, who then appeared to yell at Wilson afterward.
