A man shot and killed two children before shooting himself in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood on Sunday, police said.
The shooting was reported near Venice Boulevard and South Catalina Street, close to Loyola High School, just before 1 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately known.
Police say the man, who is believed to be the children’s father, and the two boys, ages 4 and 10, were taken to the hospital, where both children died. The man is being treated for self-inflicted gunshot wounds and remains in custody, the LAPD said.
Metro told NBC Los Angeles that police requested footage from one of its busses that may have captured the shooting as it was passing through the area.
Officials said there’s no threat to the community.
The investigation is ongoing.
This is a developing story.
