The contenders and pretenders of the Big 12 are starting to become a little more clear with each passing week.

There wasn’t exactly a title-deciding game on the Big 12 slate this weekend, but it did separate the pack a bit. Here’s a roundup from action from around the league.

Cougars Clobber ‘Cats

The conference’s game of the weekend was supposed to be Houston’s trip to Manhattan, but the Cougars took care of business in the Little Apple, winning 35-16.

Houston led 28-3 early in the third quarter. Three of their four touchdowns to that point were Conner Weigman passes to Patrick Overmyer.

A 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end, Overmyer finished with eight catches for 83 yards and four scores (he also had Houston’s final touchdown). Weigman had 242 passing yards and the four touchdowns on 30 attempts.

Kansas State finished with 299 yards of total offense, and the game’s only turnover was an Avery Johnson interception early in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats’ quarterback finished with 182 passing yards, 39 rushing yards, two passing TDs and that pick.

This result sets up a Top 20 matchup in Houston next weekend when Oklahoma State travels down.

Bachmeier Leads BYU Past Tough Iowa State Squad

From one set of Cougars to another, BYU beat a plucky Iowa State team 24-10.

Bear Bachmeier did a little bit of everything for the Cougars, throwing for 329 yards, running for 109 yards and finishing with two passing TDs. His running ability is extra important now that BYU running back LJ Martin is going to miss some time with injury.

After knocking off West Virginia in a shootout last week, Iowa State mustered just 200 yards of total offense in Provo in the loss.

West Virginia Has Another High-Scoring Game Loss

A West Virginia game is worth the price of admission this season when it comes to touchdowns scored. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, many of those touchdowns are being scored on them.

Despite Arizona having to travel multiple time zones, the Wildcats’ offense made mince meat of the Mountaineers, with Arizona winning 52-31. Over their past three games, West Virginia has given up 46 points a game in three straight losses.

Arizona compiled 522 yards of total offense to West Virginia’s 482.

The Mountaineers pulled within 38-31 early in the fourth quarter, but that was obviously the end of WVU’s scoring.

Noah Fifita averaged 21.3 yards per completion in Morgantown, which is wild. Arizona had touchdowns of 32 yards (fumble return), 40 yards, 72 yards, 42 yards and 30 yards.

WVU again ran for north of 300 yards in a loss, with Cam Cook going for 141 and two touchdowns and Michael Hawkins running for 98 yards and a touchdown to go with his 219 passing yards.
