On Saturday, Macon-Bibb’s Hispanic Festival returns to Downtown Macon to celebrate Latin American culture during Hispanic Heritage Month.

This year, Angel Roman is coming to the festival for the first time and is bringing his Puerto Rican heritage. The Macon financial advisor is looking to help change lives by offering retirement advice, financial planning, and answer life insurance questions in English and Spanish.

“I’m available, I’m in the area and I’m willing to serve. I just want to help folks understand that they can build a legacy,” Roman said. “In the Hispanic community, you’re not really told that you can take care of your family legacy for generations, really. I mean, you set it up now, you can set it up for generations. So it’s not something that’s talked about often. You don’t really talk about retirement you just save, save, save is kind of the deal.”

Roman says his own family’s experiencing is driving him to help bridge the financial planning gap for others.

“Generationally, I gotta say my grandparents or my grandmother and my parents, they probably never heard anything about family legacy,” Roman said. “I’m willing to serve, I just want to help folks understand that they can build a legacy.”

Roman isn’t the only one looking to bridge gaps Saturday. United Way of Central Georgia, Macon-Bibb Emergency Management, the Department of Health, and others are also planning to offer their resources. Edna Ruíz Adams is one of the festival’s organizers, and says along with food, entertainment, and fun, the event is looking to connect the Hispanic Community and others with these resources.

“We love our culture, but we also want to connect and bridge gaps throughout our community. Whether that be with employment or whether that be with resources, but also bridge that gap of understanding,” Ruíz Adams said.

Roman says the weekend is a chance to better his entire community and show them that he’s there to support them.

“I’m here to help,” Roman said.

The Macon-Bibb Hispanic Heritage Festival runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Street Plaza in Downtown Macon. It’s free for all to attend.
