On October 21, Tufts HSDA had the opportunity to visit fifth-grade students at Josiah Quincy Elementary School (JQES), building on the students’ month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, the fifth graders learned about and created projects representing countries across the Hispanic world, exploring topics including infrastructure, demographics, ecosystems, culture, and food.
During our visit, HSDA volunteers complemented this learning by sharing traditions from their home countries, introducing Spanish dental terminology, and discussing cultural customs and beliefs related to teeth and oral health. This interactive experience brought together culture, language, education, and dentistry while celebrating the students’ curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Volunteers:
- Adaly Asencio Veza (D’29)
- Yasmine Shah (D’29)
- David Gonzalez (D’29)
- Dr. Martha Lucia Forero (Faculty Advisor)
Thank you to Josiah Quincy Elementary School for welcoming Tufts HSDA and for giving us the opportunity to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with your students!
