SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — La Casa de Amistad hosted a family festival celebrating Día de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead.
The traditional holiday in Mexico and Latino communities is a time to remember and honor loved ones who have died.
Families keep their memories alive through traditions that may include altars, food, music, flowers, art and storytelling.
“We uplift different people or pets and other loved ones that have passed and left us behind in this world. It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate their life, to celebrate their support and their love and who they were for us and for our community,” said Dara Marquez, director of community engagement at La Casa de Amistad.
The festival also featured dance performances, interactive science demonstrations and food trucks.
The event was free and open to everyone.
