LONG ISLAND (TND) — At least four people are dead and nine are injured after a vehicle crashed into a New York nail salon.
Deer Park Fire Department Assistant Chief Dominic Albanese said during a news conference Friday that four people were found dead at Hawaii Nail & Spa after the incident and nine patients were transported to local hospitals. The crash was referred to as a “mass casualty” incident.
Albanese said that the driver of the minivan drove almost all the way to the back of the nail salon. It’s currently unknown if this was accidental or on purpose.
He added that all of the deceased victims were inside the business at the time.
This is very difficult for all the firefighters and EMS personnel on scene and we’ll be meeting with the crisis team this evening for anybody that needs it, for all departments involved,” Albanese said.
Albanese also said the driver was semiconscious and taken to a hospital.
Nine total departments responded to the scene along with 150 firefighters and EMS personnel.
