NBA champion Kyle Lowry made a meaningful impression during his limited time with the Philadelphia 76ers, strong enough to seemingly bring him back next season.

Sixers reporter Michael Kaskey-Blomain recently reported, “Lowry is expected to re-sign with the #sixers, from what I’ve heard.” While it’s just a lone report on the matter, there’s no obvious reason Philadelphia’s front office would decide against re-signing him.

Lowry spent two seasons with the Miami Heat prior to last year’s trade deadline, when he was moved to the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets agreed to a buyout with the six-time All-Star, who later decided to join his hometown 76ers. He averaged 8 points and 4.6 assists on 44.4% shooting in 23 games with the Sixers. With Philadelphia’s front office running low on available cap space (to avoid the first and second apron), it’s anticipated Lowry would sign a veteran’s minimum. As one of the most beloved players in the city, fans would pour out excitement if the news is announced.

Alternatively, the Sixers could look at a much younger, defensive-rooted guard in former No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz.
