Since 2013, Joe Holley has written the Native Texan column in the Houston Chronicle. In that time, he’s introduced readers to hundreds of Texans, past and present, from all over the Lone Star State, who have one thing in common: they make for interesting stories.
As Holley puts it in his new book, Native Texan: Stories from Deep in the Heart, his stories are about people, places, and the past — and the best ones are about all three. The book is his second volume of favorite columns, and he’s reading from it at an event at Brazos Bookstore tonight at 6:30.
Holley is also a former regular guest on Houston Matters. He was one of our original panelists on our Friday conversation The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
In the audio above, Holley talks with Houston Matters host Craig Cohen about the new book, his column, and some of the fascinating Texas tales he’s sought to share in his career.
