A popular South Boston bar that was featured in the movie “Good Will Hunting” has been named one of USA TODAY’s favorite 27 bars in the United States for 2024.
The publication said the list’s entries were selected by USA TODAY’s network of food writers nationwide. Their selections represent places these writers frequent in the communities they serve and live in.
For the L Street Tavern, located at 658 East Eighth St., Wicked Local writer Joanna K. Tzouvelis noted in USA TODAY’s review that the bar is best known for its appearance 27 years ago in “Good Will Hunting” starring Robin Williams, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and that the bar’s most popular drink is a Guinness in a 20-ounce glass.
In February, the bar’s longtime owners, Jack and Susan Woods, announced they would sell the establishment to new owners in March.
On its website, the L Street Tavern said it has stood “as a cornerstone of the South Boston community” for almost a century at the intersection of L and East Eighth streets, tracing its origins back to the era of Prohibition when it acted as a speakeasy.
