Where It All Began

My name is Frazia, and I’m currently a masters student at the iSchool here at Syracuse University studying Information Systems. From a young age, I was drawn to the way technology could solve problems and create new opportunities. I remember being captivated by how a simple app could make life easier, or how new software could revolutionize an entire industry. This curiosity wasn’t just about the gadgets themselves, but about the potential behind them—the way technology could transform ideas into reality, streamline processes, and open up new possibilities.

As I got older, this curiosity evolved into a passion for innovation. I became interested in how technology intersects with business and how innovative ideas could be transformed into successful startups. This led me to explore various aspects of technology, from coding to design thinking, and I quickly realized that I wanted to pursue a career that combined these interests.

Syracuse wasn’t just a place to earn a degree—it was an opportunity to immerse myself in a field that I was passionate about and to learn from some of the best minds in the industry. I knew that at the iSchool, I would be able to develop the skills I needed to make a real impact in the tech world, and that’s what ultimately led me to pursue my studies here.

Why I Chose the iSchool

When it came time to choose a college, Syracuse University’s iSchool stood out to me. The program offered the perfect blend of technical knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit. The focus on Information Management and Technology, combined with a concentration in Innovation Design and Startups, was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to be part of a community that encouraged creativity, supported innovation, and provided the tools to turn ideas into reality.

During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to dive deep into the world of technology, learning about everything from data management to web design. But what truly made the experience special was the supportive community at Syracuse. As a first-generation college student, I faced many challenges, but the faculty and my peers were always there to guide me. This support system made the transition from high school to the academic rigors of college much smoother and helped me grow both academically and personally.

What I Hope to Accomplish as a Student

Now, as a master’s student in Information Systems at the iSchool, I’m eager to build on the foundation I’ve laid during my undergrad. I want to dive even deeper into the world of technology, focusing on areas like data analytics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. My goal is to develop the skills I need to become a leader in the tech industry, someone who can drive innovation and make a real impact.

I’m also looking forward to staying involved in campus activities that align with my interests. I have been a part of various tech clubs like WiSE and BLISTS and competed/participated in startup competitions like the NYS Business Plan Competition through Syracuse University’s LaunchPad. I’m excited to continuously grow my network with like-minded individuals and enhance my learning outside the classroom.

Future Goals and Aspirations

Looking ahead, my dream is to use the knowledge and skills I’ve gained at Syracuse to launch my own tech startup. I’m passionate about finding innovative solutions to real-world problems, and I believe that technology is the key to doing that. I’m also committed to giving back to the community, especially by mentoring other first-generation students and helping them navigate their academic journeys.
