Rodrigo López, the beloved founder of Lopez Mexican Restaurant in southwest Houston, passed away after a long health battle, leaving a legacy of hospitality and community.

Rodrigo was known for his infectious smile and warm hospitality. He and his wife, Bertha, built the popular restaurant in 1978.

The restaurant, which started as a small family business, has grown into a beloved Houston institution. Lopez Mexican Restaurant is known not just for its food, but for the way Rodrigo López made everyone who walked through the doors feel like part of his extended family.

Rodrigo López is survived by his wife, Bertha, his sons Jonathan and Jose, his daughter Ana, and their families.

In a social media post Lopez Mexican Restaurant shared, “There are no words for how much we will miss Mr. López and what an impact his loss will have on the López family, the restaurant team, and the community he loved so much. But we are proud to have known him and to have been a part of his incredible story.”

The López family will share details about the funeral services in the coming days.
