NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — The Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NAHCC) is proud to announce the recipients of its 2024 Business & Community Excellence Awards. This year’s event, marking two decades of celebrating impactful leadership, took place at the Ayers Conference Center at Belmont University on October 16. The evening was preceded by a guest reception featuring Spanish and South American wines and Spanish and Latin American-inspired foods, setting the stage for a night of celebration and recognition.
The program opened with a powerful rendition of The National Anthem by Briana Gatica, followed by welcome remarks from Joyce Searcy, Director of Community Relations at Belmont University and NAHCC board member. Yuri Cunza, President and CEO of the NAHCC, delivered a call to action to VOTE, followed by remarks reflecting on Latino identity, inspired by the theme “¿Quién Soy?” featured in a Telemundo video spot played at the event. He also acknowledged each member of the board of directors from both the NAHCC and the NAHCC Foundation. Loraine Segovia Paz, Executive Director of the NAHCC Foundation, also welcomed guests.
The program continued with a vibrant folkloric Mexican dance performance by Corazón de Baile, featuring Joslyn Andrade and Juan Hernández, who perform traditional dances from various Mexican states. The reception area was adorned with graphic design creations focused on voter engagement, crafted by students from the Watkins College of Art at Belmont University.
“On behalf of the NAHCC Board of Directors, I congratulate the recipients of our 20th Annual Business & Community Excellence Awards. We are proud to honor those whose dedication has been vital to the growth and visibility of Hispanic businesses and the Nashville community. With Hispanics representing 11% of Nashville’s population and 7% of Tennessee’s, it’s crucial we continue to recognize and support Latino and small businesses to ensure they thrive,” said Yuri Cunza, NAHCC President & CEO.
In addition to Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s salute, ten-time Grammy winner, the legendary Arturo Sandoval, renowned for his virtuosity in both jazz and classical genres, appeared via video thanking the NAHCC for its work supporting the community. Sandoval, who was visiting Nashville to perform with NAHCC member, the Nashville Symphony, is considered one of the greatest trumpet players in the world, celebrated for his exceptional technical skills, virtuosic performances, and profound musicality — Video and photos by Karlha Ramon, Azul615 Magazine.
The NAHCC’s 2024 Business & Community Excellence Awards not only recognized business success but also celebrated the impact of these leaders in inspiring the next generation. The sold-out event featured cultural performances, interactive artwork, and a fashion showcase.
Each year, award recipients are selected by an impartial committee in recognition of their outstanding contributions, notable achievements, and commitment to excellence in service, civic leadership, and support for the Hispanic business community and the city of Nashville. For two decades, the practice of keeping recipients unaware of their recognition until the moment of the announcement has added a unique and memorable element to the event. Yuri Cunza, President and CEO of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, reflects, “Participating without the expectation of receiving an award speaks to the genuine care and dedication of our attendees to the mission and the community we serve.”
