Bombardier’s Global 7500 ultra-long-range business jet has set 75 speed records to date, the company says, including new records on flights from Miami to Sao Paulo; Tokyo to Los Angeles; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to London and Los Angeles to Auckland.

The new records build on earlier speed-setting flights, which include a 8,225-nm flight in October 2019 from Sydney to Detroit.

“These blazing new speed records continue to show that the Global 7500 is the proven, undisputed leader in its category and the business aircraft with amazing performance, bringing our customers to far-flung destinations quickly and reliably,” says Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Bombardier executive vice president of aircraft sales and Bombardier Defense.

The flights were flown as part of routine aircraft movements, including some with passengers on board. “We have on more than one occasion been thrilled to have customers and prospects be aboard for the record-setting city pairs,” Gallagher says. The Global 7500 has a top speed of Mach 0.925 and a range of 7,700 nm.

In 2022, Bombardier also announced the Global 8000 aircraft with a range of 8,000 nm and a top speed of Mach 0.94. Manufacturing for the Global 8000 is underway at Bombardier sites in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Entry into service is expected in 2025. Existing Global 7500 customers may upgrade their aircraft through Bombardier aircraft service centers, the company says. The upgrades will enhance the aircraft’s top speed, increase range and provide passengers with low cabin altitudes.

Molly McMillin, a 25-year aviation journalist, is managing editor of business aviation for the Aviation Week Network and editor-in-chief of The Weekly of Business Aviation, an Aviation Week market intelligence report.
