INDIANAPOLIS – The CUNY Athletic Conference men’s basketball champion, John Jay, will travel to Newport Newa, Va. for the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship on Friday, March 7.  The Bloodhounds (19-8) will face eighth-ranked Christopher Newport (22-5) on the Captains’ home floor.

John Jay is making its second NCAA trip in program history, with its first coming in 2008 on the heels of its first-ever CUNYAC title.  The Bloodhounds went 1-1 in their inaugural trip to the tournament, defeating Moravian 80-74 in the first round before falling to Amherst 96-74 in the round of 32.

The Bloodhounds, seeded second, defeated top-seeded Baruch 80-70 in Friday night’s CUNYAC championship game, outscoring the Bearcats 50-33 in the second half.  Jamir Stewart was named Championship MVP after scoring 23 points in the championship final.

CNU earned an at-large bid into the field after the Captains fell to Mary Washington 71-66 in the championship game of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday.  The Captains saw an eight-game win streak snapped in that contest. Christopher Newport is making its ninth straight NCAA appearance, having reached at least the final eight five times and winning the 2023 Division III national championship.

Saturday’s John Jay-Christopher Newport winner will face the winner of the other first round game at CNU between Roanoke (23-5) and Pfeiffer (18-7).

All games of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championships can be seen live at NCAA.com.
