The Arizona Republic will move printing operations to Las Vegas fall of this year. Parent company Gannett Publishing announced their Phoenix plant will close, laying off over 100 workers.
Chris Kline, CEO of Arizona Media Association, said this decision is another product of the ever-changing journalism industry.
“What’s happening in Arizona is a microcosm of what’s happening across the county and around the world,” Kline said. “Where many of these news operations are continuing to navigate how they adapt to a digital first model.”
The plant will cease operations in October, with the Republic reporting the final day to get Phoenix printed editions as Oct. 5.
