GALVESTON, Texas — A $540 million mixed-use development on Galveston’s west end is getting closer to getting the green light as it goes through the approval process with the city.
Newly named Sachs on the Seawall, a proposed project by Friendswood-based businessman Mohamed Eldawy’s Royal Crown Enterprise LLC, was scheduled for a hearing before Galveston’s Planning Commission on Sept. 16.
It would be located on a 15-acre tract where Seawall Boulevard turns into Termini-San Luis Pass Road.
It’s designed to include a Marriott Renaissance hotel, 2 condo towers, office, restaurant and retail space, and four acres of green space and nature preserve. The project could also include 236 apartments in its second phase.
It could create an estimated 2,300 jobs, including construction, retail, hotel, condo and apartment management positions.
The land was acquired from the Maceo family, a famous clan that goes back to the island’s gambling and bootlegging era of the early 20th century.
