Tacos at Tuxpan Taqueria.

It’s officially Hispanic Heritage Month and there are many great ways to celebrate. Sabor Latino 2025 is an annual autumn fundraiser held by Rhode Island Latino Arts, the state’s leading nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting Latino culture, art and history. This year, the annual food event will focus on Mexican flavors and memories, showcasing the culinary artistry of three local Mexican-owned restaurants.

Over the course of three separate evenings, guests will journey through Mexico’s diverse culinary regions. On September 17, Tuxpan Taquería will highlight the bright, coastal flavors of Veracruz, while on October 9, Maíz Mexican Food will introduce comforting dishes of Mexico’s Central Region. Lastly, on November 20, Taquería Lupita will offer a feast of Puebla’s iconic flavors. Each evening runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with one seating per night.

Councilwoman Tatiana Beana will serve as co-host at both Tuxpan Taquería and Taquería Lupita in Central Falls, while Councilman Miguel Sánchez will serve as co-host at Maíz Mexican Food in Providence. Each restaurant is run by Mexican food entrepreneurs who have earned recognition on both state and national stages.

Though Rhode Island’s Mexican community makes up a small portion of the Latino population, Mexican food culture has made a lasting impact, and the abundance of taquerías and restaurants across the state proves it. Their presence celebrates the integral role Mexican culture plays in everyday life.

Your ticket offers a chef-selected tasting menu featuring menu dishes and sides, plus one house drink. Extra food and drink will be available to order as you like at your own cost. Guests will also have the chance to connect with fellow diners and converse with the chefs about their dishes, stories and inspiration.

“Sabor Latino is an intimate dining experience that blends authentic flavors, community and conversation. It’s more than a fundraiser — it’s a celebration of the voices, food and traditions that shape Rhode Island’s Latino community,” says Marta V. Martínez, RILA’s Executive Director.

Tickets are $20 per night and person, or $50 for all three evenings, available now at rilatinoarts.org/SaborLatino. Seating is limited depending on the restaurant’s capacity.

If you can’t make the dinners, RILA’s fall calendar is filled with more ways to celebrate.

On November 2, they will host a memorable Día de los Muertos community ofrenda and celebration. December is reserved for the beloved Annual Tamalada (tamale-making gathering).

All proceeds support RILA’s year-round programming, including Teatro en El Verano, the Nuestras Raíces Oral History project, the Rhode Island Latino Book awards, and public art project initiatives.
