The Salad and Go chain has shuttered all five of its San Antonio locations, part of a broader closure of 41 stores, most of them in Texas, Nation’s Restaurant News reports.
The Dallas-based business, known for its affordable build-your-own salads, entered the Alamo City market in February 2024 as part of its rapid expansion. What set Salad and Go apart from the competing Sweetgreen chain was its drive-thru model.
San Antonio’s first Salad and Go launched inside the Brooks development, and the chain developed the remainder of its area stores over the coming months.
The Current reached out to Salad and Go for comment on the chain’s departure but got no response.
Stating that the closures are the result of a “difficult” decision, Salad and Go CEO Mike Tattersfield told NRN via email that the closure plan “includes all locations in Houston, Austin and San Antonio, along with a few in the Dallas metro and Oklahoma [markets.]”
However, Salad and Go isn’t leaving Texas entirely, according to the CEO.
“Our presence in Texas will remain strong in Dallas,” Tattersfield said. “We are reducing our footprint in Houston, Austin and San Antonio to allow us to focus on strengthening the Dallas metro area and Oklahoma. We continue to believe in the Texas market and its long-term potential.”
With Salad and Go’s exodus and the recent temporary closure of the Pearl area’s Bellagreen, Sweetgreen at the Quarry remains one of the few fast-casual dining options for San Antonio residents looking to build their own salads.
