Ohio State remains No. 1; Texas, Penn State fall out of the ratings
Georgia Tech climbed to No. 13 in the latest AP college football rankings, its best position since the 2014 season.
While the 5-0 Yellow Jackets were idle this week, a series of losses among some of the top-ranked teams moved them up four spots. Georgia Tech is a two-touchdown favorite against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets’ No. 13 ranking is their highest since they were ranked No. 8/7 in the final polls of the 2014 season, and is their highest regular-season ranking since they came in at No. 12 nationally on Oct. 9, 2011.
Georgia Tech is 5-0 for the first time since 2014 and only the fourth time in the last 59 seasons (1990, 2011, 2014 and 2025).
The University of Georgia (4-1) rose two spots to No. 10 after beating Kentucky, bouncing back from its home loss to Alabama the week before.
Miami moved back to No. 2, while Texas Tech achieved its highest ranking since 2008. Penn State and Texas fell out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2022, following the losses of the two top-10 teams to unranked opponents.
No. 1 Ohio State was dominant in its win over Minnesota, but its 40 first-place votes were its fewest since ascending to the top five weeks ago. The Hurricanes, who moved ahead of idle Oregon, went from receiving four first-place votes last week to 21 this week after winning at Florida State.
Texas was the AP’s preseason No. 1 team, and Penn State was No. 2. Both are now out of the rankings.
Penn State suffered one of the most significant falls in the 99-year history of the poll after losing to previously winless UCLA a week after the Bruins fired their coach.
The Nittany Lions had slipped from No. 2 to No. 7 following their loss to Oregon. They went to UCLA as 24.5-point favorites, according to BetMGM Sportsbook, and lost 42-37. Penn State is unranked for the first time since September 2022.
