Athens Intermediate School recently hosted a Hispanic Heritage Festival for students, families and the community.
This special event — filled with culture, creativity and connection — featured authentic foods, music, crafts and more to honor Hispanic and Latino traditions.
As part of the celebration, fourth and fifth-grade students created a Community Ofrenda Wall, a project inspired by Dia de los Muertos traditions. The display celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed and honors important people in students’ lives and the community. Each was thoughtfully decorated with bright, colorful pictures, drawings, flowers, candles and personal mementos that tell the story of the person being remembered.
This Hispanic Heritage Festival aligns with Hispanic Heritage Month — which was Sept. 15-Oct. 15 — which recognizes the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
