Stencel achieved his first All-Region honor (top 35 individually) with a 23rd-place finish (25:31) out of 214 runners as SJU finished 13th out of 31 teams yesterday (Nov. 15) at the NCAA North Regional in Colfax, Wis.
He led SJU in all six varsity races this fall, including a fourth-place finish with a personal-best time of 25:26 to earn All-MIAC recognition (top 15) as the Johnnies finished fourth at the conference meet on Nov. 1 in St. Paul. Stencel was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week on Sept. 9.
Each of the 10 regional champions earned an automatic bid to nationals and 22 teams received an at-large berth. In addition, 70 individuals, not on qualifying teams, earned automatic selection based on their finish at the regional.
