The Memphis Grizzlies have had run-ins with current Dallas Mavericks wing Klay Thompson for a decade.
The latest example came when the former Golden State Warriors star traded words with Grizzlies guard Ja Morant following a 102-96 win over Dallas.
Morant, who is sidelined by a calf injury, and Thompson had to be separated after trading verbal jabs.
While Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer did his postgame interview, Morant had one more comment to shade toward Thompson.
“Tell ’em who the best shooter in the house was. It wasn’t bro from Golden State,” Morant said.
Spencer made three 3-pointers and scored 17 points in the Grizzlies’ win. Thompson led the Mavs with 22 points and made six 3-pointers.
Thompson later shared his thoughts on Morant after the game.
“He’s a funny guy,” Thompson told reporters. “He has a lot to say all the time, especially for a guy that rarely takes accountability, but that’s for another day.”
Thompson’s rivalry with the Grizzlies goes back to before Morant was drafted in 2019, but the two have multiple postseason meetings, including the 2022 Western Conference semifinals between Memphis and Golden State. The Warriors won that series in six games.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Nov. 24 against the Denver Nuggets at FedExForum.
